Historical context. 20 Lira Cash voucher - Until 1908, 5 lira was the highest-value banknote issued by the Ottoman Imperial Bank. The market need for higher-value notes, and the government's restriction on the amount of cash banknotes is circulation, led the Ottoman Imperial Bank to issue cash vouchers in denominations of 20 and 100 lira, which could be transferred to others and redeemed at the bank.
