Historical context. The emergency one lira note was printed in Istanbul at a local printing house. Due to the lack of suitable paper availability, it was printed as an overprint on the reverse side of the Imperial Ottoman Bank: cash voucher. The size of the note was designed to fit printing of 4 notes on one sheet. The first banknotes were issued on August 17, 1914, and were withdrawn from circulation after the arrival of the 1-lira p68 banknote printed in London.
